Refitting your home design can be one of the most costly and time-consuming affairs to put your home through. With the various kinds of flooring options available on the market, it can be a lot of effort and hard work finding the right flooring that provides lasting results.
At Galloway Flooring in Manchester, we provide plenty of fabulous flooring options, and are a specialist in the most popular option - luxury vinyl tile (LVT).
Designed to mimic the look and feel of real woods and stones, not only do our brands of LVT have an attractive modern appearance, they are also incredibly hard wearing and tough.

The average lifespan of LVT is between 25-30 years. It may sound surprising, but it's true!
Due to a clever multi-layer construction - including the top design layer - luxury vinyl tile is a product built to stand the test of time within busy households and commercial-based properties. The exact duration of time it lasts will depend on several factors, including how well it is maintained and what the daily foot traffic would be.
To maxmise the longevity of your LVT, there are several factors you need to consider both before and after your purchase.
Quality
Generally, cheap products tend to be a lower quality and will show signs of degradation and wear and tear very quickly. However, that does not mean you have to spend a small fortune to have spectacular looking flooring.
The key is to look for luxury vinyl tile that has a thick wear layer, ideally at 0.5mm or more. That will successfully protect your flooring from any damages that occur with scratches, scuffs and other day-to-day threats.
Installing a high-quality underlay is one of the best ways to protect your LVT flooring and maximise the lifespan. Not only will this improve the stability, it is also a great shock absorber and will protect against moisture.
Installation
To get the best out of your LVT lifespan, it needs to be correctly installed by a professional. The subfloor will require smoothing over and being as level as possible , with all surface debris and dirt removed.
The flooring must be acclimatised first. Then, when it comes to laying the tiles, you will need a sufficient extension gap and ensure each tile is carefully lowered and connected in place. Thankfully, LVT is one of the easiest products to fit - particularly with those fitted with a click and lock system.
Even if you are a DIY amateur, you can achieve an installation as long as you follow the correct requirements for the brand.
Maintenance
Simple things, such as not mopping up spillages and using too much water when washing your LVT, can significantly reduce the lifespan of your luxury vinyl tile.
That is why it is important to take very good care of it and ensure it is well maintained over its life cycle. Our advice is to use a soft-bristle brush or vacuum to pick up the dust, dirt and debris. The surface can be gently wiped using a flat-headed spray or microfibre mop. To restore the shine, use only warm water and vinegar solution, and a slightly damp mop.
Avoid varnishes and waxes as they will affect the flooring and its anti-slip properties.
