At Galloway Flooring in Manchester, we care about our customer satisfaction with their purchase and installation, but we care even more that their investment in luxury vinyl tiles being something that pays off quickly and lasts the long term.

We promote LVT as a product that is highly practical and durable, and to keep your flooring lasting upwards of 25 years we like to keep you informed of how to maintain it. The good news is that it is simple to keep in top condition, even if your home is frantic with child and pet activity.

Here are our top caring tips to keep your LVT looking as good as the day you buy from Galloway Flooring.

Cleaning vinyl flooring is quick and easy providing that you do it regularly and correctly. Most of the time, a good quality vacuum cleaner and a non-bristle brush to sweep with will do most of the work for you. Other times, it calls for just a little dedication and knowing not what to use.

Mopping Guide

We recommend a mop at least once a week, or following any spills or staining incidents. Ensure that mop is well-wrung out, or alternatively use a damp cloth, so as to not soak the floor when you clean it.

Whilst LVT is incredibly waterproof, too much water can have an effect on the product - especially around any adhesive used. Depending on how much the room is used and if it is a room where your pets have access, you may want to have a quick sweep and mop twice a week.

If you are using any cleaning fluids on yor flooring, be sure to use a product that is compatible with your LVT, or the brand's own recommended product. Certain cleaning products can contain chemicals that will affect the anti-slip layer of your LVT. We also recommend that you refrain from the use of any waxes for the same reason.

Stain Removal

There are certain stains that can be extremely hard to remove, especially in a kitchen setting. To clean LVT within this area, we recommend using a damp cloth and hot water, mixing in some mild detergent that will help to gently lift the stain. Once again, do not soak the floor in order to remove any stain.

Most of the time, a soft bristle brush used in a circular motion  will remove stains. Once the stain is gone, wipe over the LVT with a clean damp cloth and soak up any puddles of water. Give the surface a light buffing to finish so that it dries quicker.

Don't Do This

For the ultimate in care for LVT, there are some steps you must completely avoid. The first would be using any steam mops on your LVT, as the steam can severely weaken your adhesive and effect your design layer with increased hot temperatures.

You should also ensure that your LVT is protected from constant direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to the sun's rays can cause the design layer of LVT to fade considerably over time. Be sure to have blinds and curtains covering your windows in the room on really hot sunny days.

The most important is to take every precaution in preventing furniture from dragging across your LVT flooring. For rooms fitted with LVT, place felt pads on the feet of furniture so that any movement will not scratch your flooring.

The good news with any damage to LVT is that any damage to individual tiles can be replaced very easily without disrupting the entire floor, and it is very cost-effective in that regard.

Many brands of LVT will have their own little care guides to ensure the life of the floor is maximised, and Galloway Flooring will happily provide you with care and maintenance details whenever you buy any of our fantastic LVT products.
